Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson to Deliver National Anthem at Convention Barack Obama has asked Jennifer Hudson to sing the national anthem on Thursday – the day of the presumptive Presidential candidate’s much-anticipated address to the Democratic convention in Denver, her rep tells people. “His reps called and said we’d love for you to sing the anthem on Thursday,” Hudson’s rep tells people. “She’s thrilled and excited. It’s a tremendous honor.” The DNC will not comment about Hudson’s performance until the official schedule is announced. The Dreamgirls Oscar winner and Sex and the City movie costar, whose self-titled album will be out Sept. 30, has previously expressed a desire to help the Obama campaign. “I’m so proud and excited for him,” Hudson, 26, told E! Online about Obama in June. “I haven’t gotten a call from them yet, but he does have my support.” Hudson will not be the only vocalist Thursday. Bruce Springsteen is scheduled to close the convention that night.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama: Politics Hasn’t Changed My Husband Michelle Obama gave the kind of intimate, emotional endorsement only a wife could give in her headlining speech kicking off the Democratic National Convention on Monday night. She recalled her husband, Barack Obama, as a nervous new dad, before the hype and hoopla of his life on the national stage, and said he has not been changed by politics. “He’s the same man who drove me and our new baby daughter home from the hospital 10 years ago this summer,” said Michelle, “inching along at a snail’s pace, peering anxiously at us in the rearview mirror, feeling the whole weight of her future in his hands … [He was] determined to give her what he never had, the affirming embrace of a father’s love.” Her voice caught with emotion and she sniffed several times. At the start of a four-day gathering that will culminate in her husband receiving the Democratic nomination for president, Michelle, 44, remembered the long, hard-fought primary season. “Af

Everyone's doing great," Damon's rep, Jennifer Allen, tells people. "She is a healthy baby girl." The newest addition is the third little girl in the Damon household, joining big sisters Isabella, 2, and Alexia, 10. Damon recently joked about living with so many females, telling USA Today from his home in Miami, "I'm so outnumbered down here, it's crazy." Damon, 37, and Luciana, 32, met in Miami Beach in 2003 while he was filming the comedy Stuck on You. They married in December 2005 at City Hall in Manhattan. John and Jen Breakup !

Though John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston were decidedly mum about their romance, the singer is opening up about their breakup. "There's no lying, there's no cheating, there's no nothing," Mayer told reporters Saturday about his split with Aniston after working out at an Equinox Gym in New York's SoHo neighborhood. If anything Mayer had only praise for his ex, saying: "Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I have ever met." So what went wrong? "People are different, people have different chemistry," said Mayer, who appeared emotional, nervous and sad. "I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right." Sources confirmed that the duo, whose whirlwind romance began in April, mutually decided to split earlier this week. Since the breakup, Aniston and Mayer have settled into their separate lives on different sides of the country

Inside Madonna's 50th Birthday Bash

Fifty has never looked so fabulous! Madonna celebrated her 50th birthday Saturday at a trendy London club Volstead. "It was a small party," a source confirms to people. "A private event for her close family and friends. It was low key." And despite lingering rumors of marital strife, the elaborate bash was organized by her husband Guy Ritchie. "She looks better now than she ever has done," her director husband told the 90 gathered guests, according to Britain's The Sun. "I'm so proud. I love her so much." Highlights of the evening, which had people dancing til 3 a.m. included Madonna's daughter Lourdes serenading her on the piano and illusionist David Blaine performing card tricks. Later, as the deejay blasted the singer's greatest hits, she hit the dancefloor with Lourdes and sons Rocco and David. But it was back to business Sunday morning, when the pop star was spotted heading to the gym for her usual daily worko

Bret Michaels: I Still Love Ambre Lake

Poison frontman Bret Michaels will be looking for Miss Right again when VH1’s Rock of Love Bus starts shooting next month, but future contestants be warned: he’s still not over season 2 winner Ambre Lake. “I still love her,” Michaels told people on his luxury tour bus Tuesday night moments before stepping onstage at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. “I’m not really over her yet. We still hang. She was just out with me a couple days ago and we were having a great time. She’s really got it. I think she’s great.” Season 1 winner Jessica Rickleff dumped the rocker soon after the show ended. In April, Michaels thought he had found love again in 37-year-old Lake. But in July, people reported that they broke up because of their conflicting work schedules. “The reason for destruction of all my relationships is that I’m passionate about being on the road and making music,” he says. “I have great relationships. But the women I date don’t realize that I spend between 6 and

Friends and Costars Remember Bernie Mac

In the wake of the untimely death of Bernie Mac Saturday morning at age 50, fellow entertainers fondly remember the standup comic and actor as a quintessential funnyman – and a warm guy. George Clooney, who starred with Mac in 2001’s casino caper Ocean’s Eleven and its two sequels, says, “The world just got a little less funny. He will be missed dearly.” Said fellow Ocean’s colleague Brad Pitt, “I lament the loss of a ferociously funny and hardcore family man. My thoughts are with Rhonda and their family. Bernie Mac, you are already missed.” Mac, who died at a Chicago hospital of complications from pneumonia, will be seen this fall in the comedy feature Soul Men opposite pal Samuel L. Jackson, who says, “It goes without saying that Bernie was one of the preeminent comedians of our generation.” The actor added, “He was also an attentive husband, a great father and loving grandfather. I feel blessed to have shared years of friendship with Bernie Mac, and I’m honored to have fin

Bernie Mac dies at age 50

Actor and comedian Bernie Mac dies at age 50 CHICAGO — Bernie Mac, the actor and comedian who teamed up in the casino heist caper "Ocean's Eleven" and gained a prestigious Peabody Award for his sitcom "The Bernie Mac Show," died Saturday at age 50. "Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles. She said no other details were available and asked that his family's privacy be respected. The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease. Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for D

Leonardo DiCaprio's Grandmother Dies

Leonardo DiCaprio is mourning the death of his beloved maternal grandmother, Helene Indenbirken. Indenbirken, whom The Departed star called Oma, was 93 and passed away in a hospital in her native North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, according to Indenbirken's hometown paper, the Recklinghauser Zeitung.
No exact date or cause of death has been reported.
Only last week, DiCaprio and his mother visited Indenbirken in the hospital in Oer-Erkenschwick. Her health apparently had begun to decline earlier this year. As her grandson, 33, who often took Indenbirken with him to his premieres and on to his movie sets, once told Vanity Fair: "She is literally gangsta, and I mean that with an 'a.' She will tell people exactly what she thinks to their face and look them in the eye." DiCaprio is due back in Oer-Erkenschwick, to attend a small memorial service.

Baby Sunday Makes Her Aussie Debut

Sunday Rose Urban may be just one-month-old, but the daughter of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban is already a globetrotter. Tightly swaddled in blankets and carried by her mother, baby Sunday, who was born July 7 in Nashville, arrived in her parents' native Australia Wednesday night local time, according to Sydney's Daily Telegraph. The family arrived at the Kingsford Smith Air Base in Sydney, where they were greeted by throngs of media outside and had to make their way to the Kidman's seaside home with the help of decoy cars. The trip marks the first time her maternal grandfather, Dr. Anthony Kidman, has met his granddaughter, The Daily Telegraph reported, adding that the baby's arrival is especially exciting for Kidman's young nieces and nephews who have been waiting to meet their cousin since her birth. But as excited as her Aussie clan is to meet Sunday, the trip isn't merely a family reunion: it will also be work for Kidman. The actress, who has gotten her pr

Expectant Dad Pete Wentz

Expectant Dad Pete Wentz Is Reading Up on Fatherhood Having already admitted that he's turning into his own father in anticipation of the arrival of his and wife Ashlee Simpson's baby, Pete Wentz tells people that when it comes to prepping to become a parent, "I'm reading a lot of books." The Fall Out Boy bassist, 28, at his Angels & King nightspot in Chicago with Ashlee nearby, explains, "The biggest one is The Expectant Father. It's a really good one." Not that the printed page is teaching him all he needs to know. Jokingly, he adds, "Also, I've watched Look Who's Talking and Look Who's Talking Too. I'd be worried if the baby sounded like Bruce Willis." As for wise words from his father, Wentz says, "The best advice my dad has given me was, go with your gut. And he said you can't really have expectations. If I have expectations that he's going to be a rock star, I'm sure he'll come out be

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman Is in 'Good Spirits' After Accident Morgan Freeman is in good spirits and is planning to have surgery after sustaining injuries in a car accident Sunday night, the actor's rep said in a statement Monday afternoon. "He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits," said Donna Lee. "He is going to have surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to correct the damage. He says he'll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery." The Dark Knight actor, 71, was listed in "serious" condition after a late-night car accident. Freeman was driving in Tallahatchie County when the accident happened at about 11:30 p.m., according to Mississippi Highway Patrol. He was removed from the wreck using the jaws of life, then airlifted from the accident scene to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. A passenger, identified by police as Demaris Meyer, was also in the car with Freeman.

Kathy Hilton to McCain

Kathy Hilton to McCain: This is Where My Money Goes?! Paris Hilton may not have seen her cameo in John McCain's latest campaign ad, but her mom, Kathy, sure has — and she ain't happy! "I've been asked again and again for my response to the now infamous McCain celebrity ad," Mama Hilton wrote in a short blog on The Huffington Post. "I actually have three responses. It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States." To add more fuel to the fire, Kathy and her husband, Rick, donated a total of $4,600 to McCain's campaign earlier this year. So, what do you think: Protective mother or PO'd campaign contributor?

Yes, Madonna, You Can Go Home Again

She might be battling divorce rumors, an A-Rod scandal and a tell-all book by her brother, but maybe, at heart, Madonna 's still a small-town girl after all. The Material Girl returned to her Michigan roots Saturday for a screening of her acclaimed documentary I Am Because We Are at the Traverse City Film Festival. "You can take the girl out of Michigan, but you can't take the Michigan out of the girl," she told the crowd of 540 people. "There's something poetic about coming back to the place where I used to come for holidays — camping trips with my dad and stepmother and my very large family. It's great bringing my movie to a place that I feel familiar." Madonna, who was raised in the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills, did not address any of her recent controverseys in the Q&A session that followed. The six-day event honoring independent films was co-founded by fellow Michigan native Michael Moore, who welcomed the 49-year-old Queen of Pop on st
